Put together my training plan for the Marine Corps Marathon I am running with the Lung Cancer Alliance's Team Lung Love.  Holey moley I am going to be a busy Bephy...  And I signed up for two more halfs to augment my training program.  I need to be put away.

Tonight is a rest night.

Race tomorrow 7.4 mile trail race.  Saturday 5K with Girls on the Run RI, hope I get a decent girl to look after, even if I don't it will still be fun.

Sunday run then brunch with my girl Heidi!

Not quite sure what to do with myself having a Thursday night with no class.  I've been going to class for 8 months.  My hubb seems to have wandered off somewhere so he isn't around to entertain me!   Guess WWF it is!

5.4 miles / 55 minutes / 10:12 pace starting at 1 p.m. post lunch. Felt like a pretty good run.  I stayed on the asphalt as much as I could.

Realized tonight that I need to get my Father's day gift all set up as I leave the 8th for a vacation!

I found a small copy of a picture my dad had on his dresser from the day my mother brought it home until the day their house caught fire.  Blown up to 8x10 I need to find a frame for it.  I also have some HS memorabilia of his that I will put in a shadow box frame.  I think those will be special gifts he will appreciate as his boxes of childhood memories burned in the fire.

Interesting sunset tonight.  Took a 3 mile walk on the beach with the elders and the rainbow was over the sun, I could see the ends of it but not the top.  The picture didn't do it justice, but feh, what are you going to do about that.

Scattered thoughts today.

Consistency is a big problem for me.

Friday's run at Bluff Point was not a disaster, that would be too dramatic.  To say it was good would be overstating things also.   Monday I went again, in the a.m. with the attitude I could do this.  Of course at the 0.8 mark I thought I could just go up the steep hill and cut out a few miles.  NO Beth... you may need to use the facilities and there are only two one by the beach and one by Haley Farm.  As luck would have it the urge didn't strike by the beach so up the slopey gravely hill I went.  Yes you guessed it thinking I'd not do the full 7.4 miles I'd do the 3.6 miles.  At some point I changed my mind, mostly because I felt like I needed to do this and like I may have to go to the bathroom.  You runners, you understand, right?  So I went to the right, and down the path and over the granite ledge, the bathroom issue now coming foremost in my mind....  At the point of turning right or left.  Right takes me to Haley Farms, I went right.  I'm nothing if not a glutton for punishment, as self inflicted as it is.  Honestly the run was going well and I was feeling good and totally forgot about the pottys at the trail head and headed out to Haley Farm with the goal in mind of going to the bathroom.  Hey what ever motivates a person right.

I made it to the can, moments to spare... yeah, you runners know what THAT is about.

And back down the trail I went across the bridge, feeling like a million bucks because I stomped down the nay saying demons....  Chumbawumba came on and I hollered "Pissing my life away" and "No body's going to keep me down"... fortunately no one heard, or at least no one I noticed...

I cut 20 seconds off my Friday pace per mile.  Damn, that is good Beth, that is good.  I was sweaty dirty and rolled down all the windows and opened the sunroof and took off...  and then all the sand and dog fur the mat in the back seat was trapping was now ALL over the place.  By the time it finally got all shaken out I pulled over and folded up the mat.

At the car wash I vacuumed all but one half of the back passengers seat and shook out any remaining sand or dog hair from the matt and put it on the floor, because I totally forgot to take the 4 bags of clothes to Good Will over the weekend.

What was that about consistency being a problem?  Well I guess I am consistently off in la la land, eh?

2 Posts in One Day, What?

Having a second Knob Creek, with a little vermouth, bitters, maraschino cherry and a dash of the juice.  As the ice melts it mellows as do I.  Probably not the best pre long run drink, it is Saturday night after all?  My work boyfriend gave this to me for my birthday.  Nice guy.  When you spend 2 feet away from someone 50 hours a week you do get to know them.  Oh the joys of an open space work environment.

Planning on a 10 mile run tomorrow and then Monday a.m. back to the trail to give it a go with the Positive Self Talk and prep for the race on Friday!    Then it is off to the in-laws for a BBQ, lets hope Hubb obeys and we are home early as 5 a.m. Tue is going to come super early!

Saturday I am a Running Buddy for Girls on the Run RI.  I'm excited about this, and a little nervous.  With my luck I'll get some ultra competitive 7 year old who wants to leave me in the dust because she hates women because her mom abandoned her...  I'm Irish, any good story needs some elaboration!

A day later - positive self talk

Yesterday I ran Bluff Point.  7.4 miles.  I've been reading "The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer"  while I am a runner this book is ultra helpful in the basics.  Positive self talk was the chapter I read this a.m.  As I reflect back on my run yesterday the new part of the run I wasn't positive self talking and it was tough.  The old part of the run I was like a free bird.  Except for the part getting spotted peeing off the side of the trail it was all good.  I am amazed at how much the positive self talk actually helps!  Monday I will go out to Bluff Point and run that course with positive self talk.  I can do this, I can run a 1/2 marathon what is 7.4 miles.

Took a nice 4 mile run in the light rain in SE Coastal CT this afternoon.  Sometimes it is nice to have a flexible work schedule that allows me to take an hour out and run then be ultra focused until I've completed what ever tasks I set out for myself to accomplish for the day.

After yesterdays aching left heel and knee. I had the forethought to put a bottle of water in the freezer and after I ran I rolled my foot over that bottle for a good 20 minutes.  My foot is feeling pretty spectacular!  A friend, also a massage therapist said that was really the best way to reduce the swelling in the muscles, fascia, tendons, and what ever else is in there swelling up like crazy.  I also stayed off the concrete as much as possible and stayed on asphalt.  I think that helped, also the shorter run could be a factor.

Because it was the afternoon, I slogged through it a bit. But hey, the point is to get out there and strengthen for the long runs, right?  Plus that nice endorphin release that I crave so desperately.

Rest day tomorrow, as I work in NYC on Tuesdays...  hopefully there will be a little girls night out for a favorite friend celebrating her 40th birthday tomorrow.

Training to Train, isn't that like planning to plan?

I am training to train.  How funny is that?

October 28th I run the Marine Corps Marathon with Team Lung Love.  This will be my first, of what I hope to be many marathons.

June 25th starts my training plan in earnest, with a total of 26 miles.  Right now I'm tracking about 21 miles a week.  One would think it would be early to up the miles.  My left foot is saying different and it is passing bad messages on to my left knee.  Yeah you guessed it!

Plantar fasciitis (PLAN-tur fas-e-I-tis) involves pain and inflammation of a thick band of tissue, called the plantar fascia, that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain.

I have been stretching and wearing the boot and it is feeling better and better.  Today on my 10 miles, half of which were on concrete sidewalks left me in more then my usual amount of pain.  DAMN IT!  I did take a nice long 3 mile walk on the beach, barefoot with the elder dogs.  That helped.  And rolled a bottle of ice under my foot for 20 minutes, holy cow, that really helped!

I am starting this log to hopefully track my training.
